Maynard Select Board Approves Wine Bar Licenses and Opioid Fund Framework

MAYNARD — May 21, 2025 — Maynard Select Board approves wine bar licenses, opioid fund framework, and $50,000 tree grant in busy session. Vice Chair Mike Stevens chaired the May 21 meeting in the absence of Chair Jeffrey Swanberg, with the four-member quorum voting 4-0 on every item. The board granted both a Section 12 on-premises and Section 15 off-premises wine-only license to Barrels and Vines LLC, co-owned by Maynard resident Stephanie Pitman, who plans to open a wine bar and retail shop at 115R Main Street pending state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission approval. The board also endorsed a $50,000 Metropolitan Area Planning Council Accelerating Climate Resilience grant application from the town's Tree Committee, which Tree Committee Chair Danny Schwitzler said would fund right-of-way plantings and a resident setback program with a December 2026 completion target. The board unanimously adopted a framework, proposed by Director of Municipal Services Steve Silverstein, to distribute roughly $130,000 in opioid settlement funds on hand — allocating 75 percent to municipal departments including police, fire, and public health, and 25 percent to nonprofits and residents — with payments continuing through fiscal year 2038 and totaling approximately $318,000.
