Maynard Select Board Approves Wine Bar Licenses and Opioid Fund Framework

MAYNARD -- May 21, 2025, Maynard Select Board approves wine bar licenses, opioid fund framework, and $50,000 tree grant in busy session. Vice Chair Mike Stevens chaired the May 21 meeting in the absence of Chair Jeffrey Swanberg, with the four-member quorum voting 4-0 on every item. The board granted both a Section 12 on-premises and Section 15 off-premises wine-only license to Barrels and Vines LLC, co-owned by Maynard resident Stephanie Pitman, who plans to open a wine bar and retail shop at 115R Main Street pending state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission approval. The board also endorsed a $50,000 Metropolitan Area Planning Council Accelerating Climate Resilience grant application from the town's Tree Committee, which Tree Committee Chair Danny Schwitzler said would fund right-of-way plantings and a resident setback program with a December 2026 completion target. The board unanimously adopted a framework, proposed by Director of Municipal Services Steve Silverstein, to distribute roughly $130,000 in opioid settlement funds on hand, allocating 75 percent to municipal departments including police, fire, and public health, and 25 percent to nonprofits and residents, with payments continuing through fiscal year 2038 and totaling approximately $318,000.
