MAYNARD — The Select Board heard a consultant's report finding only 6.4 percent of Maynard's curb ramps meet federal accessibility standards, with a full sidewalk fix estimated at $8.8 million. BETA Group senior project manager Tito Sanchez told the board the town inventoried 592 curb ramps and about 30 miles of sidewalk, finding 23 percent of sidewalks in "poor" condition. Closing the gap would require roughly $351,000 a year for 25 years, compared with the $100,000 currently budgeted annually.
A DPW staff member said the town has "missed out on ADA action grants for years because our transition plan was never accepted properly." The board separately voted unanimously to approve a $410,538.25 contract with Lazaro Paving Corporation for fiscal year 2027 paving work, approved a new retail wine and beer license for Barrels and Vines Retail LLC at 6 Nason Street, and renewed a two-year host community agreement with Rivers Natural Healing.
