Maynard Select Board Appoints Two Officers, Approves $2.3 Million Water Grant

MAYNARD — November 18, 2025 — Maynard Select Board unanimously appoints two police officers and authorizes $2.3 million water treatment design contract. The board voted 5-0 on both appointments Tuesday: Mateus Alves, a bilingual Middlesex County corrections officer, will begin the Lynnfield Police Academy on January 5 and join the department full-time on June 29, 2026; Max Howard, currently completing the Holyoke Police Academy, will start December 8, 2025 after serving as a 911 dispatcher in Sutton. The board also approved a state Department of Environmental Protection contract for $2.3 million in federal pass-through grant funding targeting PFAS and manganese treatment at the Old Mill Road and Green Meadow facilities, covering roughly 50 percent of the design for each of two master plan phases — with DPW staff warning a remaining gap of $4 to $5 million must still be closed. A communications firm, Capital Street Solutions, presented a phased public outreach plan already underway under a state blanket contract, aiming to explain the water system overhaul in plain language before major construction votes arrive. The board also approved a $250,000 engineering consulting change order with Stantec and established the charge for a new municipal building advisory committee.
