Maynard schools honor 9 retirees, weigh AI rules

Maynard School Committee honors nine retirees, previews AI classroom guidance for fall. Chair Natasha Rivera said the group's combined tenure topped "150 years of educational experience," recognizing teachers, paraprofessionals, a custodian and outgoing Finance Director Wayne White. Administrators outlined new AI guidance using a zero-to-five usage scale for assignments, targeted for rollout to grades 4-12 by the 2026-27 school year, alongside a state arts self-assessment and an ongoing state civil rights review of discipline data due June 5.
The committee also reviewed, without voting, a draft agreement with the town Department of Public Works on shared maintenance of school grounds ahead of the new Green Meadow building. Members voted 5-0 by roll call to adjourn at 9:08 p.m. after accepting four routine warrants unanimously.
