Maynard School Committee Unanimously Approves All Three School Handbooks for 2026-2027

MAYNARD — May 14, 2026 — Maynard School Committee approves all three school handbooks and a 3.5 percent nonunion raise at its May 14 meeting. The committee voted unanimously to approve student and athletic handbooks for Green Meadow, Fowler, and Maynard High School, though it carved out the biometric food-service scanning language for attorney review after Chair Maro Hogan reported that parent-attorneys say the program is legally opt-in, not opt-out as currently written. The committee also unanimously approved the superintendent's recommended 3.5 percent salary increase for 32 nonunion employees for fiscal year 2027. Finance Director Wayne, attending remotely from Falmouth, reported a $725,000 surplus against the school committee budget as of March 31 but cautioned the committee not to count on it, saying a budget freeze and more than $2 million in outstanding encumbrances must be resolved before year-end. Monthly school choice revenue has fallen from roughly $50,000 three years ago to under $9,000, a decline Wayne tied to a near-even balance of students choosing in versus out of the district.
