Maynard School Committee approves $404,020 in grants and backs a $1.9 million solar savings plan for Green Meadow Elementary School. The panel voted 5-0 by roll call on an ESSA Consolidated Grant worth $214,020 and competitive grants totaling $190,000, including a $110,000 PRISM2 literacy award and an $80,000 genocide education grant. Select Energy representative Beth Greenblatt told the committee a planned rooftop and canopy solar array could generate more than 700,000 kilowatt-hours a year and save the district nearly $1.9 million over 20 years at a fixed rate of 4.97 cents per kilowatt-hour.
"So over the 20 years, you're going to see a savings, if you will, a benefit directly to Maynard," Greenblatt said. Members also approved Superintendent Brian Haas' annual goals and reviewed a second read of the employee handbook without a vote.
