Maynard School Committee Approves Senior Trips, Debates Revolving Fund Budget Risk

MAYNARD — March 12, 2026 — Maynard School Committee approves senior class trips and debates revolving fund reliance in FY27 budget. The committee voted unanimously to approve two outings for the graduating class — to High Meadow Events in Connecticut on June 1 and Canobie Lake Park in New Hampshire on June 4. Member Natasha Rivera, attending remotely, raised the sharper concern of the evening, warning against drawing more than $200,000 from revolving accounts to close an anticipated $398,000 gap between the district's budget request and the town's allocation, noting the district had relied on as much as $800,000 in revolving funds in prior years. "I will not be in support of anything that relies more than $200,000 annually on revolving accounts for operational needs," Rivera said. The committee also received a Student Opportunity Act year-two update showing MAP growth above the 50th percentile in most grades and attendance rising from 94 percent to 94.4 percent, and heard that a plumbing waiver for Alumni Field was denied, leaving bleacher demolition — estimated at $45,000 to $50,000 — as the next step pending Select Board action on free cash accounts.
