Maynard School Committee unanimously approves new Finance Director starting July 2026
MAYNARD — February 26, 2026 — Maynard School Committee hires new Finance Director and flags multi-million-dollar facility costs at February meeting. The committee voted unanimously Thursday to appoint Michelle Simpson as Finance Director of Maynard Public Schools beginning July 1, 2026, on a one-year contract renewable for up to two years, following an executive session on non-union contract negotiations. Outgoing Business Manager Wayne, presenting his second-quarter financial report, told the committee the district is on track to finish the year at budget but warned that the approximately 25-year-old Fowler building faces a roof replacement estimated at roughly $3 million, aging sewer infrastructure, and declining facility rental revenue after the departure of tenant Collegegate, which had contributed about $30,000 annually. The district currently spends roughly $5,000 per year on third-party Medicaid billing through New England Medical Billing, returning between $90,000 and $125,000 annually, with a conversation underway about whether additional billing opportunities exist. The committee also approved recommended school choice enrollment seats and the meeting calendar for the 2026-27 school year, and tabled a policy amendment on medical staff training authorization pending legal review.
