Maynard manages multiple FY26 budget overruns
Select Board · Meeting of May 26, 2026
Maynard Budget Subcommittee reviews multiple FY26 spending pressures. Town Administrator Gregory Johnson reported that while revenues remained strong as of April 2026, multiple expense-side overruns required management: a utility cost spike from the Waltham Street solar array shutdown, Fire Department spending from two retirements and three FMLA employees, and a significant school department unemployment compensation overrun. Vacant positions for the Chief Assessor and temporary salaries were applied to offset snow and ice overruns and increased utilities.
Select Board member Mike Stevens raised questions about Fire Station maintenance costs and service agreements for Green Meadow Elementary School.
