Select Board Clears Path to Sell Former Fowler School for $2 Million

MAYNARD — February 18, 2025 — Maynard Select Board unanimously backs $2 million sale of former Fowler School and defers Green Meadow contractor vote. The board voted 5-0 at its February 18 meeting to authorize Town Administrator Gregory Johnson to negotiate a purchase-and-sale agreement with Maresi Development, which offered $2 million for the 61-63 Summer Street property and proposed 38 two-bedroom units, a leased senior center, a community playground, and a potential cultural space — 12 affordable units that could push Maynard above the state's 10 percent affordable housing threshold. On the Green Meadow School, the board stopped short of approving apparent low bidder CTA Construction Management, whose DCAM score of 89 was cleared by a 10-2 School Building Committee vote, with Select Board Chair Jeffrey Swanberg citing the need to review DCAM procedures and hear from Superintendent Brian Hoss before committing to the multi-million-dollar contract. The board also directed Public Works Director Justin DeMarco to formalize a pilot water filter rebate program — $2,000 for whole-home systems, $500 for point-of-use filters — funded from up to $100,000 of the water enterprise reserve fund, after residents from the Old Mill Road service area packed the meeting to describe years of brown tap water.
