Maynard Select Board Promotes Southerland to Deputy Chief, Advances Senior Center Lease

MAYNARD — April 2, 2025 — Maynard Select Board promotes two police officers and moves senior center lease forward ahead of town meeting. The board voted unanimously Wednesday to appoint Sergeant Michael Southerland as deputy police chief under a contract running through June 30, 2027, and to promote Officer Christopher Wellborne to sergeant; both were sworn in at the meeting. The board also authorized Town Administrator Gregory Wilson to prepare a lease agreement with LexVest for a new senior center at 141 Parker Street, a step Wilson called the product of "many many months of procurement and cooperation." The board accepted a $10,000 donation to the Council on Aging from the family of the late Andy Saso and advanced more than a dozen draft warrant articles to the Finance Committee, including a $200,000 Proposition 2½ override for the Council on Aging and a school override of up to $1.25 million — both requiring passage at town meeting and at a proposed special town election in May. A public budget town hall is set for April 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Roosevelt Room.
