Maynard Select Board Opens Dormant Liquor License Hearing, Starts Six-Month Clock

MAYNARD — June 17, 2025 — Maynard Select Board formally opens a public hearing on a dormant package store liquor license, starting a six-month legal clock on Maynard Liquors at 86 Powder Mill Road. The license was issued to operator Patel in late July 2024, but the store has never opened, and Town Administrator Greg Wilson told the board the hearing initiates state procedures under which the holder must operate, transfer, or return the license within six months or risk losing it. Liquor attorney Arthur Pearlman said a purchase-and-sale agreement for a transfer is expected within a week, with a formal application to follow within 14 days. Property owner Jonathan Hoffman, who filed a Superior Court lawsuit the same day seeking to block an off-site transfer, asked for a 30-day continuance; Wilson recommended against it. The board also voted unanimously to refer draft Powder Mill Overlay District zoning amendments — covering three new mixed-use sub-districts along the Assabet River corridor — to the Planning Board, and approved the formation of a Taxation Aid Committee to distribute roughly $2,000 in annual resident donations to low-income and disabled seniors.
