Maynard Schools Propose $25.6M Budget With Three New Positions

MAYNARD — December 11, 2025 — Maynard School Committee reviews a $25.575 million FY27 budget proposal with a $350,000 gap to close. Superintendent Brian Hoss presented the spending plan at the December 11 meeting, outlining three additions: reinstatement of a fifth-grade teaching position cut during last year's override year, a combined PE and health teacher for the high school to address compliance and a new health pathway program, and an athletic trainer Hoss has sought for multiple budget cycles. The town has preliminarily signaled it can allocate $25,217,000, leaving the gap that Hoss called "achievable" to close through state Chapter 70 aid and revolving accounts. Out-of-district special education costs illustrated the district's financial pressure: placements dropped from 30 students in FY21 to 22 in FY26, yet spending on those placements rose from roughly $2.75 million to nearly $3.5 million. The committee unanimously approved policy IKFD on competency determination and accepted four expense warrants.
