Maynard School Committee Approves Grants, Adopts State-Required CTE Policy

MAYNARD — November 20, 2025 — Maynard School Committee approved special education grants and a new state-required Career and Technical Education policy at its November 20 meeting. The committee voted unanimously to allocate all awarded 2025-2026 entitlement and competitive grants to cost center 2000, after debating and narrowing a broader motion that would have included pending, unapproved funds — a move at least one member called poor fiscal practice. A separate unanimous vote adopted a middle school CTE awareness policy carrying a December 1 state compliance deadline, with an annual review pegged to approximately October 1. Director of Student Services Heather reported the district has filled one of two open special education teacher positions at the high school, is covering a Green Meadow school psychologist leave through a contract with Global Assessment, and has stabilized a rocky transportation transition to Gaps for Kids after widespread complaints at the start of the year, though costs remain higher than last year. The district has also applied for a $50,000 competitive grant tied to forthcoming state timeout-space regulations, though Heather noted the district may not be a priority recipient because it was not found out of compliance during audits.
