Maynard Schools Struggle to Fill Bilingual Interventionist as Immersion Gap Widens

MAYNARD — November 6, 2025 — Maynard School Committee hears that a Spanish bilingual interventionist position has sat vacant since July, leaving immersion students without in-language academic support. At the November 6 meeting, Superintendent Brian Haas confirmed the full-time position has been continuously posted but has drawn no qualified applicants, forcing literacy intervention to be delivered in English to students in the district's full-immersion Spanish program at Green Meadow Elementary. School Committee member Natasha Rivera, attending remotely, noted the bilingual support position existed for only two of the program's roughly ten years and warned that third- and fourth-grade attrition is likely driven by unmet language-based learning needs.
