Maynard School Committee Sets April 30 Vote on $25.575 Million FY27 Budget
MAYNARD — April 9, 2026 — Maynard School Committee advances $25.575 million FY27 budget ahead of April 30 approval vote. Superintendent Brian presented the proposed budget, unchanged since December, which would reinstate a grade five teacher at Fowler School, reinstate a high school health and PE teacher, and add a full-time athletic trainer — a position sought for four years. The town's allocation of $25,177,500 leaves a gap of $397,404, to be closed through roughly $200,000 in attrition savings from retiring veteran teachers and roughly $200,000 drawn from revolving accounts. Member Natasha Rivera, attending remotely, requested a line-by-line breakdown of which revolving accounts would be tapped before the vote. Two parents, Cheryl Lucas and Pam Sweeney, submitted public comments calling for permanent funding for a dedicated Maynard High School choral director after a mid-year resignation last fall cut enrollment in the program by more than half.
