Maynard School Committee Contingently Approves $24.7 Million FY26 Budget

MAYNARD — May 8, 2025 — Maynard School Committee unanimously approves a $24.7 million FY26 budget contingent on a May 27 override vote. Chair Natasha Rivera led the 5-0 roll-call vote Thursday, authorizing a $24,744,839 operating budget that takes effect only if voters approve a Proposition 2½ override at a May 27 special election and pass supporting articles at the May 19 annual town meeting; a fallback subcommittee session is already scheduled for May 28 if the override fails. Director of Finance Wayne White presented a Q3 financial report showing the district on pace to finish FY25 at the town budget, with food service meal counts rising toward and potentially past last year's total of 180,000 meals and a new Witson's contract guaranteeing the district roughly $8,300 in annual profit. The committee also unanimously authorized White to execute the Witson's food service contract for FY26 through FY28 after a prior vote had omitted that authorization, and gave second-read approval to an amended social media policy effective May 9. Radon mitigation systems installed in four Green Meadow Elementary rooms are performing well, with all tested spaces measuring 0.4 picocuries per liter or below against an acceptable ceiling of 4.
