Maynard School Committee Elects New Chair, Approves AED Installation at Athletic Fields
MAYNARD — July 24, 2025 — Maynard School Committee elects Mara Hogan chair and votes to install public defibrillators at school fields. The committee reorganized Thursday for 2025-2026, unanimously electing Hogan chair and Natasha vice chair, then voting to authorize installation of automated external defibrillators at Fowler Field and Alumni Field following a presentation by rising senior Sienna Husbak, a Girl Scout pursuing her Gold Award. Husbak said her five-AED project targets recreational facilities across town at a total first-year cost of roughly $16,150, with fundraising more than 93 percent complete and the Zoll corporation donating one unit. "Currently, there are no publicly accessible AEDs in Maynard," Husbak told the board; devices inside schools and Town Hall are locked outside business hours. The Maynard Fire Department, under Chief Wallace, has agreed to maintain the units. The committee also approved the high school student handbook with pending language amendments on AP course eligibility and deferred a vote on the athletics handbook over unresolved student transportation policy language.
