Maynard School Committee Approves Immigration Enforcement Policy Covering All School Property

MAYNARD -- October 9, 2025, Maynard School Committee votes 5-0 to adopt an updated immigration enforcement policy covering all school property. The roll-call vote Thursday came after member Natasha Rivera pushed to broaden draft language that had referenced only school "buildings," citing documented cases in nearby communities where immigration officers approached parking lots rather than entering schools. Superintendent Brian Haas confirmed no such encounter had occurred in Maynard but agreed to the language change. High School Principal Liz York reported the school received no new NEASC recommendations in its first annual accreditation progress report and earned three commendations, including for its ongoing flex-block pilot. Director of Facilities Tony Sar told the committee the Green Meadow building project remains on schedule and on budget, while a Fowler Middle School library rooftop air-handling unit replacement was set to begin the following morning. The committee accepted warrants 2618, 2609, and 2620 without objection.
