Finance Committee approves $1.2 million budget transfer for FY2026 deficits

Finance Committee · Meeting of July 27, 2026

Maynard Finance Committee approves $1.2 million mid-year budget transfer. Town Accountant Kevin Petersen presented the transfer, drawing from surplus accounts to cover deficits driven primarily by utility costs tied to solar panel shutdown and increased energy expenses, plus advertising and personnel costs for a new trash program. The vote passed unanimously on July 27.

Committee Chair Jillian Prendergast reported that articles for an upcoming Special Town Meeting are under development, including fiscal 2027 budget amendments, zoning changes, and a proposal allowing the Select Board to set trash rates through the waste enterprise fund. The town expects $108,000 in reimbursement for fiscal 2026 snow removal.
