Maynard Launches MVP 2.0 Climate Planning Process Backed by $50,000 State Grant

MAYNARD — January 29, 2025 — Maynard's Sustainability Committee launched its MVP 2.0 climate resilience planning process with a public education session January 29, anchored by a $50,000 state grant to fund a community seed project. A presenter identified as Julie gave an overview of the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness program, noting Maynard's particular exposure due to dense older housing, limited tax base, and an Environmental Justice designation that helped secure the grant. Dr. Sally Warner, a Brandeis University climate science professor, presented data showing 2024 global temperatures exceeded the 1.5 degrees Celsius Paris Accords threshold and outlined local projections including doubled flood probability by mid-century and up to 58 fewer freezing days per year by 2070. Warner pointed to Project Drawdown's 93-item catalog of climate solutions as a starting point for brainstorming the $50,000 seed project. A hands-on project selection workshop is set for March 9 at the Maynard Fire Department training room.
