MAYNARD -- July 11, 2025, Maynard's Senior Center Committee set an internal two-week deadline to draft a Proposition 2½ override warrant article for an interim leased senior center, targeting a first-year cost in the range of $200,000 to $250,000. The committee, meeting via Zoom on July 11, is racing against a Select Board deadline of August 6 for fall town meeting warrant submissions, with a quad-board priorities session, including the Select Board, Finance Committee, Capital Planning Committee, and School Committee, set for July 30. Committee member Jack outlined the override strategy, explaining that voters would only need to approve first-year costs, lease, fit-out above any landlord allowance, and incremental staffing, rather than a full multi-year commitment. The lone formal RFI response, from Main Street Crossing, proposes roughly $32 per square foot all-in on 5,000 to 6,000 square feet, with a $35-per-square-foot fit-out allowance for a space that currently has no walls, ceilings, flooring, or plumbing. Member Maryanne reported that a visit to Littleton's under-construction 16,000-square-foot, $18.6 million senior center revealed that Littleton's council on aging board has attended every Finance Committee and Select Board meeting for years, a advocacy model the committee said Maynard should replicate immediately.
