Maynard Senior Center Committee Approves Town Meeting Presentation Ahead of May Vote

MAYNARD — April 17, 2025 — Maynard's Senior Center Committee finalized its town meeting presentation, targeting a $200,000 annual lease for a new senior center at 141 Parker Street. The committee, meeting remotely on April 17, reviewed and edited a six-slide presentation ahead of the May 19 annual town meeting, where it will seek approval of two warrant articles: one to fund Council on Aging operations contingent on a Proposition 2 1/2 override, and one to authorize the Select Board to sign a lease of up to 20 years. The proposed 5,590-square-foot space at 141 Parker Street is roughly five times the size of the current 1,200-square-foot facility, described repeatedly as a converted locker room. A member reported that the Finance Committee voted 7-0 to recommend both articles. The estimated annual cost to the average Maynard taxpayer for the senior center would be approximately $50, and a May 27 special election ballot question will proceed regardless of the town meeting outcome. Combined with a sharply reduced school override of approximately $612,000, the total override ask before voters now stands at roughly $812,000.
