MAYNARD — May 12, 2025 — Maynard Finance Committee clears 43 of 45 annual town meeting articles ahead of May 19 session. Chair Jillian Prendergast led the committee through all 45 warrant articles at the May 12 public hearing, recommending all but two: Article 28, a $3,000 retirement board stipend, and Article 39, a citizen's petition for senior real estate tax relief deemed not legally permissible. The panel backed the $612,000 school override (Article 10) — which would cost the average $543,000 single-family homeowner approximately $146 per year — and the $200,000 senior center lease override (Article 8), estimated at $50 per year per average household. The general fund budget (Article 6) and the stabilization fund transfer for solid waste (Article 12) will both carry revised figures to the floor: the stabilization draw is expected to fall from the printed $478,000 to approximately $303,000 after the Select Board redirected roughly $175,000 in savings from reduced liability insurance and revised indirect-cost projections. The Article 12 recommendation was not unanimous, with a minority arguing the town's stabilization fund — currently at 4.8 percent of the prior year's budget, well below the town's 10 percent policy target — should not be drawn down for recurring solid waste costs.
