Maynard Finance Committee Flags Budget Record Gaps After Annual Town Meeting

MAYNARD — June 9, 2025 — Maynard's Finance Committee flagged a missing authoritative budget record for fiscal year 2026 after floor amendments at the Annual Town Meeting were not reflected in the printed warrant. Chair Jillian Prendergast and members, meeting remotely June 9, noted that the town clerk's certified minutes had not yet been posted and that the committee's own forecasting spreadsheet — built by member Nathan Wigfield — showed a gap of roughly $1 million against a figure circulated by the town manager, with Green Meadow School debt service identified as the likely cause. Peter Campbell raised a separate procedural concern, saying the Finance Committee was not re-consulted after several warrant articles were amended on the floor, rendering its prior recommendations technically moot. A separate Special Town Meeting will be required to correct a solid waste appropriation that was read incorrectly the night of the meeting. The committee also heard a presentation from a Maynard High School educator about placing business-and-finance-track students with the committee under a new state innovation pathway program requiring 100 hours of professional experience per student.
