MAYNARD — May 4, 2026 — Maynard Finance Committee polishes Annual Town Meeting comments on a $57 million general fund budget and a dozen other articles ahead of the May 18 vote. Meeting remotely with six of seven members present, the committee refined its written recommendations on 13 Town Meeting articles, including a general fund budget carrying a 5.8 percent increase over fiscal year 2026 — driven by a $942,460 rise in employee benefits, described by member Nathan Wigfield as "a market condition that's beyond anything that we can budget for as a town," and a jump in debt service from $3.4 million to $5.2 million tied to Green Meadow School construction. The committee also clarified that roughly 30 percent of the town's recently adopted 7 percent water rate increase funds a $3 million engineering borrowing for groundwater improvements under Article 19, and finalized a comment on a five-year, $124,000 police body camera contract approved as a limited exception to the town's three-year procurement limit. Article 31, a citizen tax title payment agreement petition, remains unresolved pending floor amendments; the committee added it to the agenda for the May 11 public hearing meeting.
