Maynard curbside yard waste pickup starts this week
Maynard's Department of Public Works says curbside yard waste collection runs Oct. 19-23, with a final collection week of Nov. 16-20 and a recycling drop-off event Nov. 14.
The Town of Maynard's Department of Public Works announced Oct. 18 that curbside yard waste collection begins this week, running Oct. 19 through Oct. 23.
Residents should place leaf bags curbside on their regular trash day. The service is paid for through residents' yearly trash, recycling and yard waste utility subscriptions, so leaves and rake-able yard waste will be collected only from households registered for town collection services, and only when their registered trash cart is placed next to the leaf bags.
Because leaf collection is done by hand, pickups can be delayed beyond a household's usual day when volumes are heavy. The DPW asks residents to leave their registered cart next to the leaves until both the leaves and recycling have been collected.
The department also outlined other fall solid waste events. A Halloween Decorating Contest is coming up, and subscribers are reminded to have their orange overflow trash bags ready. A Recycling Drop Off Center event open to all residents is set for Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon; it is also the last chance this season to drop off old or unused trash or recycling carts, which must be empty and clean.
The final curbside yard waste collections of the season will take place the week of Nov. 16-20. After that, a leaf drop-off event will be held at the DPW facility for residents subscribed to the town's solid waste program whose leaves fall later in the season; a date has not yet been set.
Residents who still need to swap old solid waste stickers for orange overflow bags can do so at the Solid Waste Management Coordinator's office at Town Hall. More information, including sticker swap times, leaf bag placement instructions and accepted items and fees for recycling drop-off events, is available on the town's Solid Waste & Recycling page.
