Tree Committee plans spring teaching allee expansion with six new trees
Tree Committee · Meeting of February 17, 2026
Maynard Tree Committee backs April planting expansion and Arborway public event. Chair Danny Schissler confirmed plans to add six new trees to the teaching allee in April, with species to be finalized by Tree Corps at a March 3 meeting. An Arborway event and giveaway is scheduled for April 18, beginning at 9:30 a.m., featuring coffee from Gilly's Treats, a 10 a.m. speaking program, and a 10:30 a.m. planting demonstration with an Amelanchier as the Arbor Day tree; tree tags from Waltham sign vendors will cost three to four dollars each under a CDEF grant.
Secretary Chris Payson will identify materials needed for a late Tree City USA application, with Schissler, Pederson, and members Kate and Steve Smith exploring creation of a tree-centric nonprofit to facilitate future fundraising.
