Select Board authorizes green energy and mixed-use development grants

Select Board · Meeting of January 20, 2026

Maynard Select Board unanimously authorized applications for a Massachusetts Clean Energy Center grant and approved a downtown development licensing agreement. The board voted 5-0 to pursue HVAC improvements at Fowler Middle School through the no-match-required grant program, with final selection of mini-split or rooftop heat pump options to be made by the School Committee. The board also unanimously approved a five-year license agreement with Mattworks, LLC for mixed-use development at 151 Main Street featuring three residential units and bottom-floor commercial space.

Town Administrator Gregory Johnson's recommended FY27 budget includes a $813,000 School Department increase and proposes a $25 million debt exclusion for water infrastructure upgrades addressing capacity and PFAS mitigation at Rockland Avenue wells, with a Special Town Meeting planned for April and a debt exclusion vote at the Annual Town Election.
