Maynard Town Meeting Approves PFAS Water Transfer, Solar Leases, and Route 62 Zoning

MAYNARD — October 27, 2025 — Maynard's special town meeting approved a $777,250 PFAS settlement transfer, solar leases for Green Meadow School, and a Route 62 zoning overhaul. Town Moderator Dick Downey presided over 12 articles Monday night, with the $777,250 transfer from the PFAS settlement fund to the water improvement fund — the first installment of an anticipated total exceeding $3 million — drawing the most public debate over brown tap water and disinfection byproduct exceedances. Select Board members Christa Silver and Mike Stevens won passage of Articles 5 and 6, authorizing solar rooftop leases and structured tax agreements for Green Meadow Elementary School, 136-6 on a combined secret ballot. Planning Board Chair Chris Arsenal secured a 127-14 two-thirds secret ballot victory on Articles 8, 9, and 10, extending the Powder Mill Overlay District to subdistricts D, E, and F along Route 62 — areas that include the Victory Shopping Plaza, a storage facility, and a Wendy's lot. Article 11, establishing battery energy storage system restrictions in the water supply protection district, passed 133-6 on a secret ballot after an amendment raised the residential kilowatt threshold.
